Brand Accounts and which Google account to use

Why your channel may not appear on Google's account screen, and how to pick the right identity.

Updated September 16, 2026

Many creators run their channel as a Brand Account, a YouTube identity separate from their personal Google account. When you connect, Google shows an account screen listing the identities your login can act as. Which one you pick decides whether Uptides can see your channel.

Don't see your channel on Google's screen?

  • You might be signed in with the wrong Google account. Reconnect and choose the account that has your channel.
  • If your channel is a Brand Account: sign in with the same Google account you use for YouTube Studio (you'll need the Manager role or above), then pick the channel itself on Google's account screen, not your personal email.
  • If your channel isn't a Brand Account: only the channel owner's Google account can connect it. YouTube doesn't allow external access for anyone else, even managers who can use YouTube Studio.

Why YouTube Studio permissions are not enough

Permissions granted inside YouTube Studio do not appear on Google's account chooser. Uptides connects through Google's account system, so a Studio-level editor or manager on a personal channel cannot connect that channel. A Brand Account manager can, because the Brand Account itself is the identity being connected.

Reconnecting

When you reconnect, Uptides always shows Google's account chooser again so you can pick a different identity. Your personal login and your Brand Account can both be linked to your Uptides account; the personal one signs you in, the Brand Account gives access to the channel.
